Yesterday I spent time writing my fourth article about my summer trip to Alaska and the Arctic Ocean. While I do things like this I have to sit down and look through my notes and reference material that I collected over my trip. I took very detailed notes over the entire trip and even before the trip as I planned and prepared for this trip for 10 months before ever leaving. I go through the notes and choose the specific points of the trip that I want to write about. I have already planned out the basic outlines for each story before I ever write a single word. Then I figure out what smaller points to add into the story as well. After that comes the hardest part, tearing into it and making it smaller and more readable.
Why am I writing about my magazine articles in a post that should be about Whip it Up Wednesday? Firstly, this is my site and I do what I want! Secondly, to highlight that the stress many of you are feeling and the work you are all doing at home right now isn't just you. It is a lot of people and in very different ways. You see, even I have deadlines for the magazine. The editor-in-chief has very detailed and strict parameters (a framework) for how many words I must adhere to, when he needs the article by, and what kind of photos and how many he wants. I have sent over articles that I thought were ready to go, only for him to send it back and I have to rework it. Sometimes more than once!
Admittedly, there are times I find it very difficult to sit down and work on the articles. There are many times I want to go do something else, especially when I am working on it at home where I have video games, my phone, Netflix and other things I can occupy my time with. But if I do not meet the deadlines and if I do not meet the guidelines that are put in place, there is a good chance the editor will scrap my articles and move on to something else. Then my opportunity is gone.
I get that it can be hard to be home with your brothers and sisters annoying you or your PS4 staring you in the face, but this is how we have to do school at the moment and you just have to try your best. No matter what is going on, actually trying your best is what will work out better for you in the long run.
Let's move on, did ya'll peep the Movie Monday reviews? I hope you did because I set up my super fancy studio just for them! This week's movies are Moana (Disney+) and Hook (Netflix) so find some time throughout your week to sit down and watch a nice movie with everyone!
